How we’ll make this work

I don’t expect this to be easy, but I hope this will be fun. Here are the key steps we’ll take to make this reading a reality.

Finding Inspiration

Re-watching The Princess Bride is the first order of business. Everyone who plays a part in this reading should have watched it recently to understand the flow and energy. Additionally, I’ve added a few links to the Quibi videos (they aren’t all available) so everyone can see how this might work.

Dissecting the script

I’ve broken the script apart based on scenes so each actor can take on readings one scene at a time. I’ll also try to note the time signatures for each scene so folks can watch those scenes only.

Assembling the Cast

There are 19 speaking parts with varying amounts of dialog. While the Quibi versions of the reading use different actors for almost every scene, that works because the audience likely knows the story well. However, that might not work for a 5-year old. If the members act out the scenes - complete with props and simple costumes - it might be possible to switch up actors to give more folks a chance to play a part. However, if we do a straight table read (script only, no acting or props), it would make the most sense for the same actors to play the same part through the whole piece.

Recording the videos

We’ll work through the script one scene at a time, with the players recording themselves in audio and video. Once all the speaking parts are completed for one scene, I’ll edit them together so it looks like characters are speaking to one another. We’ll continue on until all scenes are done.

Sharing the videos

After the individual recordings are stitched together, I’ll make all the videos available privately to the cast and family. Distribution is TBD.
